You are invited to the Festival Brikcius - the 6th chamber music concert series in Prague (L'Arte dell'Arco - Buxtehude - Brahms120 - Tansman120),
that is held annually under the auspices of the Mayor of Prague 1,
Oldřich Lomecký and organized as a part of international Daniel Pearl
World Music Days.
This year the festival commemorates the 90th anniversary of the
birth of Russian cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, the 120th anniversary
of the death of Johannes Brahms, the 170th anniversary of the death of
Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, the 120th anniversary of the birth of
Polish-French composer of Jewish origin Alexander Tansman, the 325th
anniversary of the birth of Italian baroque composer Giuseppe Tartini,
the 380th anniversary of the birth and the 310th anniversary of the death of
German composer Dieterich Buxtehude, the 332nd anniversary of the birth
of Johann Sebastian Bach, charity concert dedicated to the Médecins
Sans Frontičres and the 19th Festival Poetry Day (the 207th anniversary of the birth of poet Karel Hynek Mácha).
Concerts are held on 1st - 16th November 2017 in Prague (the Military
Church of St. Jan Nepomucký, Loreta, the Church of St. Lawrence, the
Baroque chapel of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Praga, the
Štefánik Observatory and the New Mill Water Tower). Free entry.
Festival features cello recital THE ART OF BOWING (Wednesday 1st November), screening of music documentary film MAKANNA and preview of new documentary eSACHERe (Thursday 2nd November), organ concert BACH & BUXTEHUDE (Friday 3rd November), charity concert PIANIST for Lékaři bez hranic | Médecins Sans Frontičres (Friday 10th November), cello concert DUO BRIKCIUS & OffenBACH (Wednesday 15th November) and poetry reading POETRY DAY & V MAJÁKU (Thursday 16th November).
- Opening concert THE ART OF BOWING
will take place on Wednesday 1st November 2017 at 7 p.m., at the
Baroque Chapel of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Praga (Vlašská
34, Praha 1). Czech cellist František Brikcius will play virtuoso L'Arte dell'Arco (the Art of Bowing) - 50 variations written by Italian baroque composer Giuseppe Tartini (*April 8, 1692 Piran/Istrie - †February 26, 1770 Padova) on the theme of Corelli's Gavotte in the transcription of Paul Bazelaire (*March 4, 1886 Sédan - †December 11, 1958 Paris) for cello solo. Concert commemorates the 325th anniversary of the birth of Giuseppe Tartini in the cooperation and under the auspices of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Praga. The event is supported by the Slovenian Tourist Organisation and Tourist Board Portorož, under the patronage of the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Prague. Free entry.
- Screening of music documentary film MAKANNA will take place on Thursday 2nd November 2017 at 7 p.m., at the Štefánik Observatory (Strahovská 205, Praha 1) to commemorate the 117th anniversary of the birth of Jiří Weil (1900 - 1959) and the 19th festival Poetry day.
The documentary, back in Prague following a screening in Beijing (the
9the European Union Film Festival in China) and Lisbon (MUVI - the
International Music Film Festival in Portugal), from the concert
performance of MAKANNA (organised in the cooperation with the Jewish
Museum in Prague and held under the auspices of Sir Tom Stoppard and
Václav Havel) is based on the novel of the Jewish writer Jiří Weil, about
the rise and fall of the 7th century false prophet with his face
covered with the green veil and his eyes glowing as embers. Featuring Jan Talich, Jan Židlický, František Brikcius, Irena Kosíková and Talich Chamber Orchestra. To commemorate the 90th anniversary of the birth of Russian cellist Mstislav Rostropovich there will be presented a preview from new music documentary film eSACHERe (2018). Starring František Brikcius, Elena Rostropovich and others. In the cooperation with the Štefánik Observatory. Free entry.
- Organ concert BACH & BUXTEHUDE will take place on Friday 3rd November 2017 at 6 p.m., at Loreta (Loretánské nám. 7, Praha 1 - Hradčany) to commemorate the 332nd anniversary of the birth of Johann Sebastian Bach, the 380th anniversary of the birth and the 310th anniversary of the death of German composer Dieterich Buxtehude. Organist and composer Irena Kosíková (France) will play music by Johann Sebastian Bach and Dieterich Buxtehude. In the cooperation with Loreta. Free entry.
- Charity concert PIANIST for Lékaři bez hranic | Médecins Sans Frontičres
will take place on Friday 19th November 2017 at 7:30 p.m., at the
Church of St. Lawrence (Hellichova 18, Praha 1). French pianist Justine Verdier and Czech cellist František Brikcius will play Cello Sonata No. 1, Op. 38 by Johannes Brahms (1833 - 1897), composition d-Fence for Cello and Piano by Czech organist and composer Irena Kosíková, Fantaisie pour Violoncelle avec Orchestre ou Piano by Polish-French composer of Jewish origin Alexander Tansman (1897 - 1986) and Lied ohne Worte, Op. 109 by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. Concert commemorates the
120th anniversary of the death of Johannes Brahms, the 170th
anniversary of the death of Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and the 120th
anniversary of the birth of Polish-French composer of Jewish origin

- Cello concert DUO BRIKCIUS & OffenBACH
will take place on Wednesday 15th November 2017 at 7 p.m., at the
Military Church of St. Jan Nepomucký (Kanovnická 5/72, Praha 1 -
Hradčany). The two cellists, brother and sister Anna Brikciusová and František Brikcius (Duo Brikcius), will introduce a programme for two cellos featuring Concerto by French composer François Couperin (1668 - 1733), in Czech premiere Sonata by English composer Sonja Grossner, composition Funambule II. pour deux violoncelles by Czech organist and composer Irena Kosíková, Duo pour 2 violoncelles, op. 53 n°1 by Jacques Offenbach ( 1819 - 1880 ) a by Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi (1678 - 1741) Double Concerto. In the cooperation with the Chaplaincy of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic. Free entry.
- Poetry reading POETRY DAY & V MAJÁKU from Anna Brikciusová's
new poetry collection, with accompanying cello music by the author, is
scheduled for Thursday 16th November 2017 at 6 p.m., at the New Mill
Water Tower (Nové mlýny 827/3A, Praha 1), as part of the 19th Festival Poetry Day and the 207th anniversary of the birth of poet Karel Hynek Mácha (1810 - 1836). This event, introduced by Vít Kremlička, will feature cello compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach and Czech composer and organist Irena Kosíková. In the cooperation with the City of Prague Museum and the Festival Poetry Day. Free entry.
